New System For Police Calls

Peter McIntyre 107.5 KISSFM Wednesday, 19 October 2011 14:06
The phone system continues to be down at the Vernon RCMP detachment, but there is now another system in place to deal with non emergency calls.  People dialing the 545 7171 number are now being routed to the dispatch centre in Kelowna, to take some of the pressure off the 9-1-1 system.  On duty officers are being dispatched by radio or through their in-vehicle computers, so there could be delays in officers returning calls.  Technicians are still scrambling to fix the computer problems with the phone system which began yesterday. There's no indication when it may be repaired.
