Vernon Fire Rescue Services responded to a hazardous material spill at 3009 - 32 Avenue (Vernon Museum) at approximately 11 AM today.  An employee had found a container of Calcium Carbide which is used for lighting antique mining helmets.  The substance was cleaned up and put outside.  Upon inspection it was determined it was a highly flammable agent.  Fire Personnel contained the substance in a plastic bucket mixed with sand and kitty litter and had it hauled to the Vernon City Yards to be safely disposed of by Hazco out of Kelowna.
