Increase in Vernon, Coldstream Voters

VoteVoter interest appears to be up in Vernon, if the first day of advance polls are any indication.  The city of Vernon had 813 people cast a ballot at the Schubert Centre yesterday, almost 300 more than the first day in 2008.  Chief elections officer Patti Bridal says there were 536 voters three years ago.  Overall in 2008, 7,434 people cast a ballot in Vernon, a turnout of 26%.  Coldstream had 144 voters on Wednesday, an increase of 13.  Armstrong had 57, up by ten. Other numbers from around the area had Lumby with 148 advance voters (no 2008 numbers provided), Spallumcheen with 28 (had 127 at two sessions in '08), and Enderby and Area F of the North Okanagan Regional District had 45 (39 city, 6 Area F). The next advance polls will be held November 16th and 17th in most communities, and general voting day is on the 19th.
