An
official with the village of Lumby admits it's embarrassing, but an
error was made in the vote totals released on Saturday night. Ken Klassen, chief elections officer, says advance votes for
councillors were included twice in the totals, giving the candidates
anywhere from 53 to 103 more votes than they had. He says the numbers were recorded wrong on the ballot count sheet, which he says was an error made after a long day. However, Klassen adds that's why they are called preliminary numbers, as it gives them time to double check everything. Fortunately, the mistake didn't impact the the order of finish at all. Randal Ostafichuk was first with 397 votes (instead of 500), Lori
Mindnich second with 313 (403), Jo Anne Fisher was third with 284 (337)
and Nick Hodge got the last spot with 246 (299). Elinor Turril was fifth with 236, James Harvey 224, Judy Gibbs 219 and Murray August with 179. No errors were made in the count for the mayoralty candidates.
