Teen Accused of Assaulting Officer

A Vernon bylaw officer had a scary incident while conducting what appeared to be a routine vehicle check on Turtle Mountain Boulevard.  RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says a car hit reverse as the officer walked up to it from the rear Friday night.  "The bylaw officers stated that the young male driver pushed him back on the roadway about 20 to 30 feet. The suspect vehicle was located on Old Kamloops Road by our officers. When they activated their emergency equipment, the vehicle fled." Molendyk adds, "The officer said he was lucky it was slippery, so he slid backwards on his heels."  The car was eventually stopped near Salmon River Road, and a 16 year old Enderby area boy was arrested. He has been released from custody, but will face charges of dangerous driving, assault with a weapon, and flight.
