Mountie Denies Rampant Harassment

RCMPA veteran female Vernon RCMP officer is refuting claims of widespread sexual harassment in the force.  Constable Sue Kolibaba says in her 17 years of service in BC and Saskatchewan, she's never personally suffered any harassment, although she's aware of others that have had problems. She has gone public with her comments after a former female Mountie suggested harassment is rampant in the force. "My main point is certainly not to say that the allegations are not true. My point is we are all being painted with the same brush. It's been said that all female members are being sexually harassed and all male members are harassing us, and that is not true." Kolibaba is the wife of the RCMP's South East District Traffic Services Superintendent Randy Kolibaba, but she doesn't feel that's affected how she's been treated by other officers. She admits there are some problems.
"We are 25,000 members and it's going to happen in an organization this big. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but there are ways to address these issues, and it's not running rampant through the detachments." Kolibaba, who has worked with the Vernon RCMP's sex crimes unit, has done several media interviews including the Vancouver Province, and says she's received support from other officers. "The feed back since the release of the articles has been phenomenal from the members, just saying thank you. Thank you for stepping up to the plate and saying we're not all this way."
