Rental Housing grant deadline approaching

The deadline to apply for City of Kelowna grants to support construction of affordable rental housing is Dec. 23.Groups developing affordable rental housing are invited to submit submissions for grants of up to $5,000 per unit. Additional funds are budgeted to offset a portion of the applicable Development Cost Charges for eligible units of affordable rental housing. Grant allocations will depend on the amount of funds available and the number of eligible units in applications received by the City for 2012. Applicants must submit a letter of application by Dec. 23, and the units identified for funding must qualify under the City's definition of affordable rental housing. Units eligible for funding must be secured by entering into a housing agreement with the City and the dwellings must be reasonably expected to be constructed in 2012.
