Greater
Vernon residents are encouraged to find out more about proposed new
water use restrictions scheduled to start in the spring. RDNO's water sustainability coordinator Jennifer Miles says the changes were recommended by a 26 member community drought response team. Miles says the plan is to switch from alternate day watering, to a three-day-a-week system. "We wanted to help provide some consistency for residents.Having it
alternate day can be sometimes a bit confusion because people can forget
what day they should be watering." Miles say under the new system, odd addresses will be able to water
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays under normal conditions, while even
addresses will be Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. "We've asked that no watering occur on Mondays, and that will allow
us to take better readings from our treatment plant and get a sense of
how much water is being used outdoors." The other big change is going from four water supply stages--to
five--by adding a new stage called 'normal' which will allow for more
gradual changes in the restrictions. Miles say the new rules could be before the RDNO board in February for approval. Get more detials HERE.
