Wesbild Centre will be getting a new portable ice covering system in time for the BC Winter Games. The Greater Vernon Advisory Committee has agreed to spend 117-thousand dollars to replace the existing flooring which is ten years old, has rips, and is a tripping hazard. Wesbild will host around two-thousand athletes, coaches and officials for the Games' opening and closing ceremonies in February. In other GVAC news, a safer water system in Lavington will be the result of an upgrade given the green light by local politicians. 400-thousand dollars will be spent on the Bessette Pressure Reducing Station which will replace the shut down Antwerp wells. Staff say the project will be done by the spring, and will improve the reliability of the potable water systems in Lavington.

Greater Vernon's busiest beaches could get upgrades, if grant applications are successful. G-VAC will be applying for more than 700-thousand dollars from the Community Recreation Funding program. Projects would include making the washrooms at Kin, Kal and Paddlewheel Park beaches more accessible, and improving equipment, and adding an outdoor tot playground, and pool lift chair at the Vernon Rec Centre. The committee will consider going ahead with some of the projects, even if the grants are turned down.
