Vernon council is officially backing the bid to bring the 2014 Royal Bank Cup hockey tournament to the city. Council has agreed to give the bid committee a letter of support and
a surety of five-thousand dollars which will be returned if the event
makes a profit. Councillor Juliette Cunningham says there's a lot of support for events like that. "I think it's a good economic development driver and I do support it." Councillor Bob Spiers says it was an easy decision for council. "Our exposure is basically just providing a five thousand dollar
surety and that money may never has to be used. It will come back to
us." The next step is to get the bid into Hockey Canada which will announce the winning bid later this year.
