RCMP Program Gets Help

The Vernon RCMP's auxiliary program has picked up a new ride---or at least one with a new look.  Hilltop Subaru has donated the paint job and decal installation on a vehicle to make it match the look of other police vehicles. The RCMP's Gord Molendyk says the detachment has 15 active auxiliaries. "Their main role is to assist in community policing activities and event, and assist our regular members with their duties. The volunteers also provide foot, bike and ski patrols where needed, and help with patrols for the extreme cold weather program to protect homeless resdients. Molendyk says the owner of the auto dealership has a history with the program. "John Kosmino is a retired auxiliary who had 25 years of service." The vehicle, a 2006 Chevy Acura with 4x4 capabilities, also has a specialized bike rack for when the auxiliaries go out for bike patrols across the detachment area.
