Armstrong council has voted to write RDNO to pull out of the building inspection function. Mayor Chris Pieper says it's about cost. "It was supposed to be a user pay function, and building starts in
the last year have been slower than normal, and the function is not
sustainable, so they've gone to taxation." The mayor and councillor Shirley Fowler voted against the letter. Pieper says the move to tax for the service will cost the city 18 thousand dollars. "We were pretty strong on making this a continuing user pay function
because we don't see where residents or commercial should be paying for
building inspections." Lumby mayor Kevin Acton's also opposed, noting the village had no inspections last year. At the RDNO meeting last week, Armstrong was joined by Spallumcheen,
Lumby and Electoral Area E, Cherryville, in opposing the decision, but
were out voted.
