You've already started planning your summer vacation, you can finally put the wheels in motion to make your get-away a reality.
Starting March 15, the website Discover Camping opens their reservation service so campers can book into their favourite summertime spot.
You can start reserving provincial campgrounds starting at 7 a.m. on
Thursday March 15. Reservations for group sites can be made up to 12
months in advance. Nathalie Dechaine, the recreation services officer at Discover Camping
reminds people to make reservations as soon as they can, so they are not disappointed. "The campsites that tend to fill-up the quickest are: Haynes Point,
Rathtrevor Beach, Bear Creek, Okanagan Lake and Shuswap Lake (Scotch
Creek) and Carp Lake Island. In some cases these fill-up quickly because
they are so small such as Carp Lake Island, but in other cases like
Shuswap Lake which has 274 sites, they fill-up simply due to demand."
Camping fees range from $5 to $10 per person per night in the
backcountry and $16 to $30 per party per night for frontcountry camping,
depending on services provided. For more specific information on which
parks cost what, and during which season, check out http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/fees/userfees.pdf.
