The teacher's job action will mean no Earth Day celebration in Vernon this year. Mayor Rob Sawatzky says council has agreed with a staff recommendation to cancel the April 22nd event, given the unlikeliness of School District 22 students participating. "Because it was a youth centred project, and because of the teacher's job action, they didn't feel there would be an ability to involve the kids and young people." It should return in 2013. The city has held Earth Day events the last four years which have included student rallies called 'Be The Change."
