A Vernon seniors facility will be getting some financial assistance from city council. The Schubert Centre on 30th Avenue is facing a $100,000 debt, and had asked the city for a number of exemptions including taxes and water. Mayor Rob Sawatzky says they've approved a one time grant of 15-thousand dollars. He tells Kiss FM, "And we have recommended to them that they apply for the higher tax exemption classification. They were not getting the full exemption." Sawatzky says applying in the social services category will give the centre a 100 percent exemption from city taxes, saving the facility up to an extra five thousand dollars annually. The centre will also be encouraged to seek assistance from the business community on how to improve their business model.
