Vernon Farmers MarketThe Vernon Farmers Market has been producing some big numbers for the local economy. Manager Wayne Seabrook says a study shows the market injects about 3.35 million dollars annually into the community. "Although people know the market is a great place to buy fresh, local food, the results of this study help us communicate to others how valuable the farmers' market is to our community." He says about 100-thousand people visit the market each year, with about two-thirds coming out at least 2 or 3 times a month. Seabrook says the study shows more people are putting importance on buying local food, the environment and the local economy. "The study was conducted to evaluate the benefits of the Thursday sessions of the Vernon Farmers' Market. The results from the initial assessment concluded that the Thursday market sees about 55,000 visitors annually and contributes about $1.85 million to the local economy annually. When the Monday sessions of the Market are included the total combined economic benefits are $3.35 million. The Vernon Farmers' Market is participating in a province-wide study of the economic and community benefits of farmers markets. The markets are held Mondays and Thursdays in the parking lot at Wesbild Centre, with over 100 vendors.
