Grass fire deliberate

By Jennifer Smith - Vernon Morning Star Published: September 17, 2012 11:00 AM
A grass fire that broke out near Davison Orchards Saturday is believed to have been deliberate. Firefighters were called to the blaze, on Davison Road, around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. With the assistance of Okanagan Landing firefighters, crews managed to contain the blaze. Now RCMP are dealing with suspects who allegedly sparked the blaze. It was the second deliberate fire start Vernon firefighters attended Saturday. Earlier in the morning, crews were called to a vehicle fire at Alexis Park Church. An old car, which the church used as a demolition vehicle for some of its youth-group activities, was lit on fire around 4 a.m. Firefighters also doused a second vehicle fire, although not believed to be deliberate, Sunday afternoon on O'Keefe Road. The vehicle caught fire from a gas leak that was sparked when the owner started it. See more on the seriousness of fires, particularly deliberate starts, in Wednesday's issue of The Morning Star.
