Interest Grows In Abbott's Position

Monday, 10 September 2012 01:14 Interest is starting to heat up in the Shuswap for George Abbott's soon to be vacant position. The four term Liberal MLA will be retiring in May, and the party plans to hold a nomination meeting in early November. Liberal constituency president Brian Cowan of Salmon Arm says he's hearing about some potential candidates. He tells Kiss FM, "I anticipate we won't end up with just one. It will be two or more people that will be interested." Cowan says interest in the position was initially slow. "I think that everyone was holding back out of respect for George, making sure it wasn't interfering with his announcement." He says the nomination will be held after the Liberal's convention set for late October. Steve Gunner from Armstrong is the NDP candidate in Shuswap. Meantime, Vernon Monashee Liberals will officially declare MLA Eric Foster as their candidate, at a meeting tomorrow.
