Vernon has got regional support for hosting Ironman Canada should the city decide to make a bid, and get the go-ahead from race organizers. Regional District of North Okanagan chair Patrick Nicol says their board passed a motion for support in principal at Wednesday's meeting. Nicol tells Kiss FM, "And we look forward to greater details with respect to a request for help with a waste management plan which is an important segment of any Ironman race." Nicol says the board sees the event as an opportunity, even though he says more information is needed on the potential costs. "The presenters from the city were given kudos by the board for the kind of effort they've made on behalf of the whole region to put us in a position to submit a bid, if that is the decision by the city." Vernon council will decide Friday afternoon if they will join Kelowna--and likely other cities-- to bid on the event. The deadline for bids is next Monday. The World Triathlon Corp. is expected to announce the succesful bidder October 10.
