Fire crews are responding a structure fire in the 5700 block of Heritage Drive in Vernon, south of Bella Vista Drive.  The call came in just after 3:15, and both Vernon and Landing crews are on scene. Reports indicate one unit caught fire and spread to the attic of a second unit.

One home was totalled while two more were damaged in a fire in a Vernon townhouse complex this afternoon.  It broke out around 3:15, at Kikanee Estates in the 5700 block of Heritage Drive. Vernon fire chief Keith Green says says it appears everyone got out and there were no injuries. Green says it started on the outside of the house, and the cause is under investigation. He says the cause is under investigation, but there's indications it started on the outside of the house. "If it starts on the outside you're always concerned that it wasn't an appliance inside or an electrical fire, but an outside fire is always a bit of a concern." Green says they will be following up on the cause and talking with eyewitnesses who saw it break out. It appears the home where it started was unoccupied at the time.
Green says the time of the fire added to the concern. "We had people coming home from school, and (other) people concerned whether their loved ones were safe."
