Plans for a new Greater Vernon recycling facility will be discussed by local officials over the next few weeks. Regional District of North Okanagan board chair Patrick Nicol says they have to decide if a new site would be better, or to rebuild next to the landfill. "It's worth watching what happens with respect to the contract, the tenders, and negotiations, which will all be open and transparent," he said to Kiss FM. Nicol says the regional district's two buildings destroyed in last week's fire were insured, with damage at just over one million dollars. One building was worth $594,900 while another was valued at $473,000. He says the facility operator, Bluewater Projects, also lost a coverall building with no damage estimate on that. Investigators were unable to find the cause or point of origin of the March 1 fire due to the damage, but it wasn't suspicious.
