Gakhal memorialA memorial tonight will mark a very dark day in Vernon's history. Nine members of the Gakhal and Saran families were murdered in a domestic incident 17 years ago. The gunman, the estranged husband of one victim, later took his own life. Brooke McLardy from the Vernon Womens Transition House Society says the event is still important to family members. "Not only that the victims are remembered, and the survivors, but that other people are aware of domestic violence in our  community, and that there continues to be victims of domestic violence." A candlelight vigil will be held outside the former library at 6 tonight. McLardy says over the last few years, about 80 people have taken part. "People that were affected by the murders at that time tend to attend."
