Rebecca HelpsThe fifth candidate in the Vernon Monashee election race admits she may just be a name on the ballot, a so called 'parachute candidate.' Rebecca Helps is a Port Moody resident who will run for the Green Party, the group that she is the executive director for. Helps hasn't decided how much time she will spend in the riding campaigning. "I haven't really considered taking part in the forums. I was planning on just being a name on the ballot, but I'm going to get registered and I'll take it from there," she tells Kiss FM. Helps says she decided to run after no candidates came forward in Vernon. "I don't that's a reflection that people don't want a Green candidate. I think it's more a reflection of the challenges were facing in our democracy now with people not wanting to be involved in politics." Huguette Allen of the Greens had 16 percent of the votes in Vernon Monashee in the 2009 BC election. Helps says with her entry, the Green Party has candidates in 59 of the province's 85 ridings.
