Kal Tire offers grants

By Staff Writer - Vernon Morning Star Published: April 14, 2013 1:00 AM
Vernon’s Kal Tire is celebrating its 60th anniversary by helping fund six recreational resurfacing projects that use recycled tire products.  From playgrounds to running tracks, Kal Tire is now taking provincewide applications. “The 60-year milestone is something we want to celebrate with our communities and the people who helped us make Kal Tire what we are today,” said Robert Foord, Kal Tire president. “It is part of our culture to support the communities in which our company operates and our team members live, work and play.” Kal Tire 60th anniversary grants are available under the same criteria as Tire Stewardship B.C.’s community grant program. For the six lucky recipients, Kal Tire will provide the 50 per cent portion of the funds normally required to be provided by recipients. Since 2007, Kal Tire has diverted more than 55,000 tonnes of scrap tires from the environment into the recycling stream in B.C. This equates to 2.9 million tires. Applications for grants will be accepted by Kal Tire until May 6. Application information can be found at www.kaltire.com/grant

Kal Tire’s 60th anniversary grants will fund the 50% portion of the funds normally required to be provided by recipients under the criteria from Tire Stewardship BC’s (TSBC) Community Grant Program. To apply for the grant, fill out an application on the TSBC website. Submit your application to TSBC and send a copy of your application to Kal Tire at marketing@kaltire.com.  Please indicate on your application form to TSBC that you have also submitted an application to Kal Tire.
Grant applications closes May 6, 2013.

Don Quixote Note: This is a perfect opportunity for GVAC to apply for a grant to cover the costs of providing a suitable resurfacing to the Multiplex (Kal Tire Arena) track where hundreds of people walk each day. I have requested a cost for such a project and with this grant opportunity (if successful) this improvement could happen at no cost to the taxpayer.
