Acting on information from the public, RCMP officers
arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery Thursday at a Vernon gas
station. Police issued a video surveillance photo Friday morning
of a suspect believed to be responsible for a robbery Thursday at Super
Save Gas in the 4400 block of 27th Street. The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. when a lone
male entered the gas station after another customer left the store,
produced a knife and demanded money. He left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash. A police service dog team could not pick up a track. The photo released by RCMP Friday showed a male suspect
wearing sunglasses, a baseball hat, one glove on his left hand and a
light-coloured hoody under a black jacket. "Thanks to information from the public, and thanks to
the media posting the suspect's photo, calls were made to our detachment
and he was identified," said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk
Friday evening. The man was arrested on the street without incident within a six-block radius of the gas station. Police also received a report Friday that a knife had been found near the gas station. Molendyk confirmed that officers recovered a knife but could not confirm if it had been used in the robbery.
