Residents Urged To Prepare For Flood Season

North Okanagan residents are advised to be prepared for possible spring flooding. Brent Watson, coordinator for North Okanagan Emergency Management, says the latest snow pack is at 107 percent of normal. "The normal range is between 90 and 110 percent, so were just on the high end of normal. It really is weather dependent. If it rains heavily like it did last June, then we're going to have flooding for sure, but if the snow melts gradually, then it will be considered a regular flood season," Watson tells Kiss FM. Watson says there's very little help from local and provincial governments for flood protection, so residents should take advantage of sand and sandbags located at various locations. "Residents, if they think they may have flooding, or had flooding last year, by all means, they should avail themselves of those sandbags and start preparing now, instead of later."
