Donna Stancer and Deanna Lavalley from DeMara Consulting are accused of claiming 191 million dollars in false expenses on behalf of 179 clients, in order to generate nearly ten million dollars in unlawful refunds. The two are facing fraud and income tax evasion charges. A court document alleges DeMara's methods are rooted in the tax protester movement, which is based on the theory that people are free from the obligation to pay tax, an idea the courts have not supported so far.
