 Debate Over Need For Bypass
Written by Peter McIntyre 107.5 KISSFM Thursday, 15 August 2013 06:01
Vernon council parked plans for a highway bypass a few years ago, but one councillor feels it's time for more discussion. Bob Spiers wants the city to pursue another route for the highway, saying he and others are concerned about growing traffic levels on the highway through town. "We should be encouraging the province to actually provide a west side bypass on the west side of Okanagan Lake," Spiers told his council colleagues. While that isn't part of Vernon, Spiers would like to see council support the potential route in the city's official community plan which is under review. The former western bypass proposal called for a route through parts of Bella Vista and Mission Hill, which council put on the shelf in 2008 due to opposition.
