The planned sports facility next to Okanagan College in Coldstream is moving to the next phase. The regional district has awarded the contract for the detailed design and construction management to a Vancouver firm called Dialog. RDNO's Community Development Coordinator Tannis Nelson says staff and the consultant will be meeting with stakeholder groups this fall to discuss the site layout, civil work and facility design. That will be followed by detailed design and tendering the site preparation work. Nelson says an archaeological study on the site is currently underway and expected to be completed by the end of September. "On-site construction will begin following the completion of the study, which is anticipated to be in October 2013," says Nelson. Completion of the Olympic sized track and sports field venue is targeted for the fall of 2014, with Nelson saying the  public will get access sometime after that. The Agricultural Land Commission has mandated construction be done by November 2014 as a condition of using farm land for the project. Greater Vernon voters approved borrowing up to $7.5 million for the facility in a referendum in April by a 52% margin.
