The Canadian Forces are being extra careful with a item found in Kalamalka Lake south of Vernon. A five person dive team is continuing a site survey of the Cosens Bay area where a military ordnance was discovered by a personal watercraft operator on Monday. Lieutenant Greg Menzies, a spokesman for the dive team, says they have yet to determine what type of unexploded ordnance it is, adding it's not necessarily a mortar. "Their main objective is to identfy, collect, and dispose of the ordnance and to survey the area and make sure it's safe for the public," Menzies tells Kiss FM. Menzies says the Canadian Forces will hold a news conference at the Kalavista boat launch Friday afternoon to talk about their activities in the lake. Team members are expected to describe what type of ordnance it is, and how they plan to deal with it. Old military items have turned up around Vernon over the years, as the area was used for military training in the past.
