Rail Decision Said To Be Close

A decision on the future of rail service in the Okanagan may be as little as a week away. Bankruptcy trustee John McEowan says Canadian National Rail is close to making a decision on the continued operation of the line from Kamloops to Kelowna. McEowan says for now they've cleared the tracks of cars left stranded by the bankruptcy of Kelowna Pacific Railway July 5. That has shut all regular service on the lines from Vernon to Lumby on CP-owned track and Kelowna to Kamloops on the CN lines. KPR had operated the lines since 2000 under a lease arrangement. Most of their 50 employees are Vernon based.
