Cemetary Fees Rising

Rising costs to maintain the land has led to the city of Vernon increasing fees for its cemetary by 33 percent.City staff say costs to operate the facility on Pleasant Valley Road have gone up 20% the past three years. Councillor Catherine Lord says the standard adult fee will go from $725 dollars -- to $970, next year. "It's a once in a lifetime cost, it's not ongoing like utilities, and in order for us to maintan the cemetary, like peole want us to, we really have no choice," Lord tell Kiss FM. Staff say cemetary revenues have not covered operating costs since 2007.
