Vernon Public Art Gallery, Vernon RCMP require help regarding theft

The Vernon Public Art Gallery has released information pertaining to the theft of artwork from the community gallery on Saturday, Nov. 23.  The artwork was part of a community exhibition titled Transformations, a group exhibition by Kama? Creative Aboriginal Arts Collective, members from the Okanagan Indian Band. The Vernon RCMP have confirmed the theft. “This file is still under investigation,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.The thief stole a pair each of men’s and woman’s beaded rawhide riders’ gloves, a pair of beaded rawhide moccasins, and beaded rawhide purse/medicine pouch. The value of the items stolen is approximately $11,600. A white beaded bracelet was also noticed missing from the gallery shop on the same date. The gallery has surveillance video of a female person of interest in the case, but is unable to get a positive ID on her, and is asking members of the community to help identify this person.
