City, controller have parting of the ways

SATURDAY, 01 FEBRUARY 2014 02:00 Penticton HERALD STAFF
The City of Penticton and its controller appear to have parted company. A call to City Hall's switchboard Friday confirmed that Doug Leahy is no longer employed by the city. Leahy worked in the treasury department since 2006, later becoming chief financial officer. However, in an unusual move, he switched positions with Colin Fisher in August 2013. City manager Annette Antoniak said at the time that the situation would be reviewed in January. At press time, Antoniak had not replied to a request for comment. Mayor Garry Litke was unavailable due to an illness in his family. Former mayor Jake Kimberley, whose association with Leahy dates back to the early 1990s when Leahy was then employed by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, had kind words for the man. "I always found Doug Leahy to be very efficient, always very straight up and very dedicated to his job," Kimberley said in an interview. "He was such a pleasant and decent person to work with, and he was very comfortable and capable in his position. He was well-liked by staff, respected in the community."
