The Greater Vernon governance issue may not be on any local ballots this fall. Vernon could still ask its residents if they support an amalgamation study, but councillor Bob Spiers says it's clear Electoral areas B and C, and Coldstream won't be including it, even though he thinks they should. "I just wanted to make sure everyone knows that it won't be going as a referendum question in the area, and I guess we'll have to decide if we put it out for our people (Vernon residents) in the next five or six months," Spiers told the media. Spiers still thinks there would be merits for their partners to put the question to their residents in the November elections. "And I wish Areas B and C would give their citizens the same opportunity to see if they (the politician reps) truly represent their constituency, but they're not going to," Spiers adds. A letter to the city from the Area B and C reps Bob Fleming and Mike Macnabb, says they don't support an amalgamation study, or spending tax dollars and staff time to put it on the ballot, preferring to remain with the current governance structure.
