Civic officials want to find out what the public thinks about options for a new ice sheet Greater Vernon. "The City of Vernon Recreation Services and MQN Architects are hosting an open house in the Grand Room at Kal Tire Place on Wednesday, May 28 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm for the Replacement Sheet of Ice Project," says Tanya Laing Gahr, the city's communications coordinator. Laing-Gahr says the open house will include a 30 minute presentation on the plans, and a chance to ask questions. The options include twinning Kal Tire Place or the Priest Valley Arena, or a stand-alone facility, with a referendum on the issue set for this fall. "The open house is for facility user groups—both ice users and dry floor renters—and any interested citizens from the greater Vernon area, including Vernon, Coldstream, BX and Swan Lake," says city release. A new ice sheet could replace the Civic Arena which opened in 1937, and is costly to operate. Groups or individuals interested in attending the open house are asked to RSVP to City of Vernon Recreation Services by calling 250-550-3257 or emailing abookings@vernon.ca
