Five suspects have been arrested after a report of shots fired led to police busting a suspected North Okanagan drug lab. RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says police had been investigating a property on Trinity Valley Road east of Enderby in the Ashton Creek area for several months over a lab thought to be producing synthetic drugs. "The investigation was suddenly moved forward this weekend with reports of shots fired in the area Monday. Our officers responded, and five suspects were taken into custody, three men and two women," says Molendyk. The suspects are expected to face charges of producing a synthetic drug, possession of stolen property, and firearms offenses. It's not known why the shots were fired, but no injuries have been reported. Police expect to be at the site several days for the investigation and clean-up. "Synthetic labs can have quite an environmental effect on properties because these individuals do not dispose of the chemicals in the most favourable fashion. That's why we have called in the environmental agencies," says Molendyk. It's not clear at this point what type of drug was being made. "We're not 100 percent sure what they were producing. We won't probably know until they are in there. It will be a form of some drug that they have concocted," adds Molendyk.
