Coldstream Passes On Park Purchase

Written by Glen Morrison 107.5 KISSFM Tuesday, 29 July 2014 11:00
The District of Coldstream won't be able to follow up on it's opportunity to buy a prime piece of Kalamalka Lake property. The land is that of the late Dr. Margaret Ormsby, a two acre parcel at the foot of Coldstream Creek Road. Dr. Ormsby's will gave Coldstream first refusal on condition it become known as Ormsby Park, but the trustee has asked for 6 million dollars. Acting mayor Peter McClean tells Kiss FM, "The price is a little steep, and I don't think that's what Dr. Ormsby considered years ago when she wanted it turned into a park," says McClean. The district has chosen not to buy based on an assessment of the property as a park, not residential. It's now on the open market. Ormsby, a noted Canadian historian, died in 1996.

Under the the yet to be approved new Parks function would that potential park been local or sub-regional? I guess we will never know. Certainly priced beyond reach of the district of Coldstream. Looks like the heirs didn't share Dr Ormsby vision of a park. Cheers Shawn Lee a Vernon Taxpayer
