Kal Park Split By Road?

Written by Glen Morrison 107.5 KISSFM Wednesday, 16 July 2014 10:00
The Transportation Ministry is proposing a big change for what may consider a jewel of the North Okanagan, Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park. Coldstream council's been told they want to approve a 30 meter wide road through the park to Cosens Bay, a move that would split the park. Acting mayor Peter McClean says they'd been unaware of a petition by Cosens Bay resident Alice Klim, launched last September looking for better access. He says "Their indication is, that at the beginning, it will be just a gravel road, but I think that one can suspect that there will be a paved road going through there and that if it's 30 meters wide it definitely will have an impact on the park and the animals and everything else." McClean says there will have to be a public process before any move is made, but council has a lot of concerns including future development in the bay area south of the park.

This would be a bad thing. The compromise to the grassland portion the the park would be to great. Doesn't anyone remember the shared vision when the park was created?Preservation of natural environments takes commitment. Apparently MOT doesn't talk to Parks BC.This seems to be an end run around those who treasure the integrity of Kal Park. Cheers Shawn Lee a Vernon Taxpayer.
