North Okanagan RCMP are investigating the crash of a small plane off the west side of Okanagan Lake. Police were alerted to the crash of a Cessna 180 floatplane about 6:45 this evening in the area of Six Mile Creek Road. Vernon Search and Rescue, the Okanagan Indian Band Fire Department, and ambulance personal attended the area to search for the aircraft and passengers. "Several residents who live nearby and heard the plane go down assisted as well," says RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. Shortly after 8 pm, RCMP received information the aircraft had been located and the lone occupant, the pilot, walked away from the crash. "He was taken to hospital by ambulance personal and his injuries are unknown at this time." Further updates on the incident are expected to be released Tuesday.

Crash Landing For Student Skydiver

A skydiver had to be taken to Vernon hospital with unknown injuries after crash landing into a house on Myriad Road near the airport this afternoon. Fire-Rescue captain Brent Bond says the man in his 50's was a student jumper who lost communication with his instructor, either due to a technical issue or a medical condition. He landed on a house just after 4pm, causing minor damage, and his parachute got wrapped around a power line. "Apparently he hit the house, and then fell off the roof onto the ground," says Bond. BC Hydro was called to the scene to make repairs. Bond says no one was in the house at the time.
