Coldstream Limits Support For Pellet Plant

There was a public input session for Lavington residents concerned about the proposed 39 million dollar wood pellet plant in their neighborhood. Coldstream mayor Jim Garlick says it was coupled with an Environment Ministry presentation on the requirements for a permit. Garlick says council passed a motion. "We can't support this proposal if the plant can not meet the standards, the guidelines put forward by the province, on these air emissions," says Garlick. The mayor adds Pinnacle has assured them the facility will be cleaner than the standard wood burning plant, using natural gas instead of wood waste to dry the product. "This plant does operate in a different manner than any of the other plants that are in BC," Garlick tells Kiss FM. A public hearing on the required zoning for the Tolko-Pinnacle Renewable Energy project will be held next Monday night. A petition with more than 300 names is opposed to the plant, citing the danger of particulate emissions near Lavington School, along with noise and train traffic issues.
