Cops ready to ride for kids today

They’ve been training all summer, and now they’re ready to take on the marathon of a bike ride to help local kids. This trio of Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP Const. Nicolas Reimann, auxiliary constable Peter Foodikoff, and jail guard Kevin Lane have joined the 2014 Thomas Alan Budd Foundation Cops for Kids Ride Team, and will leave Kelowna today on a 10-day, 1,000-km cycling journey across southeastern B.C. “This is my third year on the Cops for Kids Ride,” said Lane. “Nick and Peter have no idea what’s ahead of them physically to get over those hills, but at the bottom are some smiling kids who can’t wait to thank us for our fundraising efforts. It really makes those grinding hills all worthwhile.” Joining the trio on the ride, as a member of the support crew, is Cpl. Daryl Dalby, stationed in Falkland. The annual Cops for Kids Ride raises funds and awareness for children in medical, physical and traumatic crisis in this region, for the funding of medical equipment, therapies, travel to Children’s Hospital, learning and mobility aids. During the 10-day ride, Cops for Kids riders will cycle into 18 different communities across southeastern B.C. As a part of the 2014 Cops for Kids Ride, the team will be arriving in Vernon on Saturday Sept. 13, at 3 p.m. to Swan Lake Nurseryland, where they will be doing some community presentations to local children, meet with local media and dignitaries.
