Fairbairn seeks Area D re-election

A fixture in regional politics wants to remain involved. Rick Fairbairn will seek re-election Nov. 15 as rural Lumby director, a position he has held consecutively since 2002. “I want to continue to represent the constituents of Area D,” said the rancher, who is currently Regional District of North Okanagan vice-chairperson. “Since I’ve been involved, I’ve been active with various committees and have gained a lot of knowledge and experience.” Besides sitting on the RDNO board, Fairbairn is involved in the Electoral Area Advisory Committee, the White Valley Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee, the agricultural advisory committee and Okanagan Basin Water Board. Among the issues that Fairbairn wants to focus on is promoting agriculture as economic development and resolve provincial meat processing regulations. “I want to continue to attract young farmers to get involved in the industry and to make our food network safe,” he said. Another priority for Fairbairn is ensuring all local jurisdictions work together within the regional district to meet the needs of residents. “It’s been my focus to keep the tax rate low and that constituents get investment for their tax dollars,” he said. “I want to see the well being of the regional district continue. There is a spirit of co-operation among the members.” Beyond elected office, Fairbairn volunteers with the Lumby Health Services Society and the Whitevalley Community Resource Centre.
