Province To Review Pellet Plant Soon

Written by Peter McIntyre 107.5 KISSFM Friday, 26 September 2014 06:00
BC's Environment Ministry has yet to start reviewing the plan for a wood pellet plant in Lavington. The ministry says they are still waiting for an updated proposal from Pinnacle Renewable Energy, including a new air dispersion modelling report, expected by the end of this month. Once they have all the information, ministry staff will assess the application and make a recommendation to the Director who will either grant a permit to discharge with conditions, refuse the application, or ask for more information. The plant -- planned for land near Tolko's mill and the elementary school -- has created opposition from residents over air quality and other issues. Pinnacle and Tolko have said the technology used will negate health hazards. The ministry has the final say on the proposal after Coldstream council gave it rezoning approval and the Agricultural Land Commission approved non farm use for the site.
