Two Council Reps Seek Second Terms

The list of who's in -- and who's out -- on Vernon council is getting a little clearer. First term reps Brian Quiring and Catherine Lord both say they will run again in November. Quiring issued a release saying his priorities include using development and construction as economic drivers, and providing a wide range of housing choices. "I have worked hard to encourage staff to streamline the development application process in an effort to promote viable economic development. I will continue to encourage and promote transit oriented mixed use development with a wide range of housing choices," says Quiring, with MQN Architects. One term councillor Juliette Cunningham says she will have more to say later this week, but looks to be running again, and Bob Spiers says he hasn't decided on seeking a third term. Current Mayor Rob Sawatzky won't be running for a second term, while councillor Mary Jo O'Keefe has announced she is running for mayor. The official nomination period is from September 30 to October 10, with elections on November 15.
