VERNON – Keeping an eye on how the City of Vernon spends property tax dollars has been Vernon councillor Bob Spiers mission from day one and he plans to continue the mission for another term. Spiers has announced he will run for re-election to council, ruling out a run for the mayor’s chair, which he says is an overcrowded field. “I have been encouraged by past supporters that my presence on Council is still warranted and my stance of Property Tax Watchdog is appreciated,” Spiers says in a media release. “I will continue to vote for those projects and services that truly are required but will be a councillor who has respect for property tax dollars and will never authorize frivolous and unnecessary spending.” Spiers says he will revisit water rates in an effort to achieve fairness and equity for all customers. He wants a fair water rates formula implemented. He will continue to support prioritized capital works for rehabilitation and repair, rather than political or cosmetic projects.
