A Salmon Arm resident has won the Conservative nomination for the North Okanagan Shuswap federal riding. Business owner Mel Arnold topped a field of four candidates that also included former Vernon mayor Wayne Lippert, former BC Conservative candidate Scott Anderson and former Lumby councillor Janet Green. Arnold is a lifetime resident of the Shuswap who has operated Complete Marine for 25 years. He is a past president of the BC Wildlife Federation and current chair of the Canadian Wildlife Federation Governance committee. "Winning the candidacy is the first step towards winning the next election and providing the best representation possible to residents of the entire riding," says Arnold, who wants to build on the good work by MP Colin Mayes and the Conservative government. Arnold will take over from Mayes, the eight year MP who is also from Salmon Arm, prior to the next federal election in October 2015. The vote counts have not been released by the party. Voting was held at the Seniors Centre in Salmon Arm and the Schubert Centre in Vernon. Arnold joins Jacqui Gingras of the New Democrats, Cindy Derkaz of the Liberals, and Dave Smith of the Green party as confirmed candidates.
