Vernon's fire chief says his crews are responding to fewer first medical responder calls (FMR). For a while, fire crews attended all accidents, which sometimes created duplication of service at the sites with BC Ambulance. Fire chief Keith Green says they've cut back on some calls. "It's not really a change in policy. BC Ambulance changed their coding so there would be some calls that exclude us from going, more minor incidents," says Green. Through the end of June this year, VFR went to 681 first medical response calls, more than 300 fewer than the same time last year. FMR calls made up about one-third of the incidents VFR responded to.
