Coldstream fire chief moving

Coldstream’s fire chief is climbing the occupational ladder as he hangs up his local hat and moves to a full-time position in Saskatchewan. Shane Code has accepted a paid position with the Estevan Fire Department, starting Nov. 17. “They’re paying me to be their full time fire chief,” said Code, who is currently fire chief of the Coldstream Fire Department, where he is a paid-on-call volunteer. Code is also superintendant of the B.C. Ambulance Service, a position he will also be vacating. “I don’t want to leave Coldstream,” said Code, of his decision which is strictly professional. As for Coldstream, a new fire chief may not be hard to find. “My wife is actually thinking of running,” said Code of assistant chief Fiona Morgenthaler Code. The couple will be living long-distance. “We have no kids so we can make these moves quite easier,” said Code. A new fire chief will be elected in January with the annual general meeting, meanwhile the ongoing operations will be turned over to Morgenthaler Code and deputy chief David Sturgeon. Estevan, said Code, is a small oil-patch town two hours out of Regina.
