Vernon's new mayor-elect is rolling up his sleeves and getting to work, even before he officially starts his new job. Akbal Mund and the six-member council will officially start their duties after a swearing in ceremony Monday night at City Hall. Mund has spent the time since the November 15th election talking with councillors and outgoing mayor Rob Sawatzky about the issues. Mund says some of the issues will require almost immediate attention. "There's Kin Race Track (legal issues with Equestrian Society), the referendum for the ice sheet, there's the water, and these are things that are going to hit the table December 2nd," says Mund. Mund says he doesn't plan to come in and "stir the pot," adding he wants to keep good communications with Vernon's neighbors and on council. "You want to continue what has been done that's great for our city."
